FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – CARBON CAR RENTAL

1. What are the age and licence requirements to rent a car?
The main driver and any additional authorised drivers must:
– Be at least 25 years old, and
– Have held a valid driving licence for at least 7 years.

We may ask to see the original driving licence and passport/ID at pick‑up.

2. Can someone else drive the vehicle?
Yes, but only if they are:
– At least 25 years old,
– Have held a valid licence for 7+ years, and
– Are added to the rental contract as authorised drivers.

Any additional driver must be approved by Carbon Car and included in the contract. The renter is responsible for all authorised drivers.

3. What documents do I need to present?
At pick‑up we normally require:
– Passport or national ID card
– Valid driving licence (and international permit if required by your country)
– Payment method for the deposit (cash, card or bank transfer, as agreed)

4. Is there a deposit? How does it work?
Yes. A security deposit is required for every rental. The exact amount depends on the vehicle category and rental period and is shown in your rental contract.

The deposit is used to cover:
– Damage to the vehicle
– Misuse or lack of fuel
– Unpaid charges such as fines, tolls or extra services

If the value of the damage or unpaid charges is lower than the deposit, the remaining amount is returned to you. If it is higher, Carbon Car may keep the full deposit but will not claim any additional amount from you.

5. When do I get my deposit back?
After you return the vehicle, we check:
– Vehicle condition
– Fuel level
– Any pending charges (e.g. fines notified during the rental)

If everything is in order, the deposit is released/returned. If there are pending fines or charges, we may temporarily retain the deposit (or part of it) until they are clarified.

6. What type of insurance is included?
All rentals include insurance with an excess (franchise). The amount of the excess is specified in your rental contract. In case of damage, you may be liable up to the excess amount, unless the damage is excluded under the policy (for example, misuse or serious breach of the contract).

7. Is smoking allowed in the car? What about pets and sand?
No. Smoking inside the vehicle is prohibited, and you must avoid excessive dirt from pets, sand, liquids or similar misuse.

If the vehicle is returned with a smell of tobacco, pet hair, sand or similar dirt, €200 will be deducted from the deposit as a cleaning fee.

8. What is the fuel policy?
Our standard policy is full‑to‑full:
– The car is delivered with a full tank.
– You must return it with a full tank.

If the tank is not full on return, fuel and/or refuelling service may be charged according to the current price list.

9. Is mileage unlimited?
Yes, unless otherwise stated in your contract, included mileage is unlimited. If a price for extra kilometres applies in a specific rental, it will be clearly shown in the contract.

10. Can I drive the car outside Spain?
The authorised use area is Spain. Leaving Spain without prior written authorisation from Carbon Car is strictly forbidden. If you need to travel to another country, please contact us in advance so we can confirm if it is possible and under what conditions.

11. What happens if I return the car late?
You must return the car on the date, time and at the place agreed in the contract.

– If you expect to be late, you must inform us before the return time. Depending on the delay and vehicle availability, we may charge an extra part of a day or one extra rental day.
– If you do not inform us, return the car late without justification or do not answer calls/messages, we may charge up to two daily rental rates (double daily rate), plus any additional costs caused by the delay (for example, lost bookings).

12. Who is responsible for fines, tolls and parking tickets?
The renter is responsible for all fines, penalties, tolls, parking tickets and other road charges incurred during the rental.

If Carbon Car has to process a fine or road charge on your behalf, we will charge the amount of the fine or charge plus a 10 € management fee.

13. Is there a booking fee? Is it refundable?
At the time of booking, you may be asked to pay a reservation amount of 100 € (or another amount agreed in writing).

– If you cancel at least 14 days before the agreed start date of the rental, this reservation amount will be refunded.
– If you cancel less than 14 days before the start date or do not show up to collect the vehicle, the reservation amount is non‑refundable, unless Carbon Car expressly decides otherwise in writing.

14. Do I get a refund if I return the car earlier than planned?
If you return the vehicle before the end of the agreed rental period, we are not obliged to refund unused days, unless a different arrangement has been agreed in writing.

15. What should I do in case of an accident or theft?
In case of an accident:
– Do not abandon the vehicle.
– Protect the vehicle and, if necessary, call the emergency services.
– Contact Carbon Car as soon as possible.
– Complete the accident report form (if available) and collect the details of the other parties involved.

In case of robbery or theft:
– Contact Carbon Car immediately.
– File a report with the competent authorities and provide a copy to Carbon Car as soon as possible.

Failure to follow these steps may affect insurance coverage.
